KALAMAZOO, Mich. — Burger Bros, a restaurant based in Kalamazoo, is raising funds for an 11-month-old boy in need of a heart transplant.

Ewan Ormerod lives on the East side of the state, but his relatives have ties to West Michigan.

"I knew I had the vehicle in order to help them raise more money for their son," said Chris Slocum, owner of Burger Bros.

For the whole week, Burger Bros is offering a $5 box with a burger, fries and a drink. It's a special deal to help raise money. If you order anything off their entire menu, 5% of the proceeds will be given to the family. This includes sales done online, over the phone, or in person.

"When I [learned about Ewan], it literally just broke my heart," said Slocum. "I have kids, and I can only imagine what they are going through, how that feels."

So far, they've done 30% more business than usual as people have learned about the effort to help the Ormerod family.

"I have three daughters myself, so I would definitely like, if I was in that position, I would hope somebody would help me," said customer Kristie Russell.

So far, the restaurant has raised $800 since the start of the fund raising on Monday.

"It has not stopped," said Slocum. "It's been going everyday. It's absolutely amazing."

The fundraiser continues throughout Sunday. After that, Slocum plans to send a check to the family.

Ewan's mom said over text message, "We are so thankful to Burger Bro's for the fundraiser in honor of Ewan. Our family is overwhelmed to hear about how many people are coming together to support our son. There are no words that would be sufficient to express our gratitude."
