KALAMAZOO COUNTY, Mich. — A Jacksonville patrol officer was arrested Tuesday on charges of sexual misconduct with a minor, said FOX 17's sister station FOX 30 in Jacksonville.

The charges stem from a case that began in Kalamazoo County years ago, they said.

“The person being charged has not seen an arraignment in Michigan for the charge,” said Kalamazoo County Sheriff Richard Fuller during an interview on Wednesday. “They’re going through a court process to get them to Michigan. They’re very cooperative to speed that process along. But again they’re still in Florida.”

Sheriff Fuller said that they were made aware of the situation when the victim told them about it years ago. Immediately detectives were assigned to it. And, Sheriff Fuller confirmed that the suspect was taken into custody yesterday.

FOX 30 identified him as David Gedert. He was arrested for ‘sexual misconduct with victim less than 13-years-old.’

“I want victims to understand you have a voice and we are listening. If it is a couple of years, or year down the road, we still listen. We make sure if there’s a need for an investigation, if you’re asking for an investigation, we’ll do this,” Sheriff Fuller said. “At the same time, I want anybody that’s been involved as the perpetrator of these crimes to understand there’s a long arm and we can reach you wherever you go.”
