Driver suffers minor injuries after crash with utility pole in Kalamazoo

KALAMAZOO, Mich. — One person is hospitalized after losing control of their car, hitting a utility pole and rolling their car.

It happened just before 7 p.m. Monday night near West Main and Hilbert Streets in Kalamazoo, according to the Kalamazoo Department of Piublic Safety.

The driver was the only one inside and was trapped in their car when first reponders arrived. Police say the driver left the roadway at a curve, hit a utility pole and rolled the car over.

West Main Street was closed for nearly an hour for clean up, police say.

Crews had to use tools to extricate the driver safely, according to police. The driver was hospitalized with only minor injuries.

The department says this a good reminder for drivers that your first duty as a driver is to drive your vehicle, keep your eyes on the road ahead, and minimize distractions.
