BATTLE CREEK, Mich. — City of Battle Creek creates site and app to connect customers with restaurant take-out and delivery

Battle Creek restaurants and their customers have a new way to connect: EatsBC, both an app and a web site.

The project allows restaurant patrons to arrange takeout and delivery at their favorite local eateries, and it gives restaurants a lower-cost ordering process.

The app and site were created by the city’s Small Business Development Office and only charges restaurants a 3.5 percent transaction fee, about one-tenth the cost of existing apps.

The app and site will take the customer’s order, take the payment, and transmit the order to the participating restaurant.

Restaurant owners need to sign up for the service. One of the restaurants already on the app and site is Torti Taco. “It’s a great application to support the food community in the Battle Creek area during these times,” said owner Javier Fortoso in a city release.

The city used a team of local IT and software pros for the project, including corePHP, and Jon Galbreath of Jonic IT Consulting.

. “We knew that many of our prepared food operators were not set up for delivery or online sales,” noted city development director John Hart, who said government and business “need to be bold and adapt to the new normal.”
