MARSHALL TOWNSHIP, Mich. — A man is facing multiple charges for allegedly assaulting a 14-year-old family member and discharging a weapon.

The Calhoun County Sheriff's Department says it responded to a home in the 15000 block of 15 Mile Road around 11:30 p.m. Tuesday night in Marshall Township.

Deputies say they were called after a 41-year-old man who was intoxicated and armed with a shotgun was allegedly assaulting a 14-year-old family member.

The suspect made threats to shoot deputies when they arrived and then went into a room where a gun safe with several other firearms was located, according to the sheriff's department.

Deputies were able to get everyone outside the home safely but the suspect refused to cooperate.

He was taken into custody a short time later and is now facing both weapon and assault charges.

No one was hurt.
