MARSHALL TOWNSHIP, Mich. — A Marshall teenager is in serious condition after a Thursday evening crash in Calhoun County.

Deputies from the Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office responded to a report of a single-vehicle crash about 7:30 p.m. to the area of 19 Mile Road and F Drive S. in Marshall Township, according to a news release Friday.

They found a vehicle that was in a ditch after hitting a tree, and the driver was found pinned in the vehicle and unconscious.

Firefighters from the Homer and Fredonia Township fire departments were able to extricate the driver, who was then flown by helicopter to Bronson Hospital in Kalamazoo.

The driver, an 18-year-old man, is listed in serious condition.

Preliminary investigations show he may have lost control of his vehicle on an isolated portion of ice-covered road.

The crash remains under investigation by the Calhoun County Sheriff’s accident reconstruction team.
