KALAMAZOO, Mich. — Several businesses across downtown Kalamazoo have already started to cleanup and put boards over their storefronts after protests turn violent.
Many owners we talked to say police warned them about the possibility of protests happening late Monday afternoon.
The owner of K'Zoo in the Mitten, a boutique store downtown, says she is frustrated because of the damage left behind.
"It's so needless", said Patricia Hirschowner. "We're in a bad enough situation with the pandemic and it's it's just frustration, I feel that the protesters have every right to feel the way they do."
Police say protests started off quiet in Kalamazoo and then turned violent.
The Kalamazoo courthouse was also damaged by vandals.
The city is expected to host a press conference on the situation Tuesday at 11 a.m.
Fox 17 will carry it live on air, online, and on our news app.
