Wyoming man arrested after stand-off Sunday evening

WYOMING, Mich. — After initially refusing to come out of his garage, a man armed with a handgun surrended to the Wyoming Department of Public Safety Sunday night following a stand-off.

The Wyoming Department of Public Safety arrived at 3452 Woodward Ave. SW near Peppercorn Apartments to help resolve a domestic dispute.

Upon arrival, officers were told a man involved in an argument has gone into a nearby garage unattached to the apartment building.

The man had two valid arrest warrants.

As officers approached the garage to arrest the man, they saw he was armed with a gun and refused to exit the garage.

After just under four hours of negotiations, the man peacefully surrendered and was taken into custody without incident.

The Kent County Prosecutor's Office has issued charges on the man for carrying a concealed weapon, felon in possession of a firearm, resisting and obstructing a police officer, and felony firearm,

The man's name is being withheld until he is arraigned on Tuesday.
