COMSTOCK PARK, Mich. — Crafters across West Michigan are coming together to help the animals affected by Australia's recent wildfires.

In the face of Australia's worst wildfire season on record, a network of people across Michigan (and the rest of the country) are working together to create resources that are desperately needed by those working to take care of the displaced animals.

“You can always count on the crafters, we’re so passionate," volunteer Katherine Santora said Thursday,"we’re passionate about what we do and we love sharing it.”

Santora's home in Comstock Park functions as a drop-off point for those participating in the efforts.

The idea came from a group on Facebook called the Animal Rescue Craft Guild. The group is providing patterns and specific instructions for each item on their page.

Volunteers are creating pouches for young kangaroo and synthetic nests for young birds, among other necessities.
