WYOMING, Mich. — The Kent County Prosecutor’s Office will not file homicide charges against anyone in a fatal December shooting in Wyoming.

Fifteen-year-old Emanuel Hernandez was found with multiple gunshot wounds on Dec. 7 in the front seat of a minivan on Prairie Parkway in Wyoming. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Since the shooting, Wyoming police have been investigating the circumstances surrounding it and the people involved. Those findings were delivered to the prosecutor’s office, which determined that no homicide charges will be filed in the case.

Investigators say Hernandez was armed the night he was shot and pulled that gun out while in the minivan and pointed it at someone else inside to rob them. The person he was trying to rob then shot and killed him in self-defense, according to prosecutors.

The Kent County Prosecutor’s Office has filed charges against three people in the incident.

Two juveniles are charged with armed robbery and 18-year-old Johnny Greer III is charged with carrying a concealed weapon, a felony.
