BATTLE CREEK, Mich. — Kellogg Community College will postpone most of its fall sports to the spring semester because of the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.

The move comes from guidance from the National Junior College Athletic Association and the Michigan Community College Athletic Association and is a precautionary measure to protect student-athletes and fans, the college said in a news release Thursday.

Men’s and women’s cross country events will be the only competitions that will still take place as scheduled in the fall, according to the release.

Those teams’ competitions will begin Aug. 20, with practices beginning Aug. 1.

Fall practices will still be permitted for all teams, the release said.

"The role of the student athlete at KCC will not change in any shape or form," Athletics and Physical Education Director Tom Shaw said. "Fall student athletes will keep their athletic scholarship, they're on the team and they will have some sort of practice."
