Police identify man killed in Grand Rapids stabbing

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — Police have identified the victim of a fatal stabbing in Grand Rapids.

It happened around 3 p.m. Thursday on Kirtland Street, just west of Division Street. When first responders arrived, they found 32-year-old Timothy Westra with a stab wound to his chest.

He was taken to an area hospital, where he later died.

On Friday, officials ruled his death a homicide.

Police haven’t said what led up to the stabbing or if anyone has been identified as a suspect. Investigators are still working to talk with more witnesses.
