GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — This year marks the 12th year local orthodontist, Dr. Laura Fogle and her staff have organized the“Warm Hands Warm Hearts” winter-wear collection drive.

You can drop off new or gently used mittens and gloves, coats, hats, and scarves for both adults and children.

The coats, hats, mittens, scarves, boots, etc. that they collect from our community are then given to the families living at the YWCA’s emergency shelter and supportive housing program for victims of domestic violence and their children.

Domestic violence is at epidemic levels. 1 in 4 women and 1 in 7 men have been victims of severe physical violence by their partners.

In Kent County, there are approximately 4,000 cases of domestic violence reported by law enforcement annually. Despite its frequency, domestic violence is something people do not talk about.

You can drop off items at Fogle Orthodontics, 933 Three Mile Rd. NW (3 Mile Rd, just west of the 3 Mile and Alpine Ave intersection) in Grand Rapids.

The office is open Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays from 8:00 am – 5:00 pm (closed 1:00 pm – 2:00 pm.

The last day to drop off items is Wednesday, December 18.
