GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — Kent County officials announced Thursday additional funding for businesses that must close or limit operations because of the state’s epidemic order that went into effect this week.

The expansion of the Small Business Recovery Program is aimed at restaurants, bars, theaters, entertainment venues, group fitness classes, bowling centers, ice skating rinks and others listed in the order, a news release said.

“The COVID-19 pandemic continues to have a devastating impact on many small businesses,” Kent County Board of Commissioners Chair Mandy Bolter said. “Businesses forced to shut down or curtail operations around the holidays may not recover unless we act quickly to provide relief.”

The Grand Rapids Chamber will reach out to existing grant recipients that may qualify for more funding.

These grants will range from $5,000 to $20,000.

$5 million will be allocated from federal CARES Act funding.

Funding will soon be depleted, so businesses should not wait to apply, the news release said.

Applications can be found on the Grand Rapids Chamber’s website.
