4 suspects taken into custody in GR following 'critical incident'

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — Four suspects have been apprehended after what was called a critical incident on the city's Northwest side, according to a Grand Rapids Police Department (GRPD) spokesperson.

The series of incidents believed to have started around 8:15 p.m., but GRPD believes that the suspects involved were also connected to a cell phone store robbery that occurred Monday.

The suspects taking off on foot when approached by GRPD officers in the 900 block of Alpine Avenue NW.

Three of the suspects fled into a nearby retail store, while one suspect fled into a nearby residence.

The suspect who fled into the residence was located with the help of a K-9 unit before being taken into custody.

After more than an hour, the suspects in the retail store surrendered to GRPD officers and were also taken into custody.

In total, four men were taken into custody after what has been deemed an ongoing investigation.

The Michigan State Police (MSP) and Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) officers assisted GRPD.
