GRAND RAPIDS — GRCC has canceled its study abroad program to Italy with the increased concern over the coronavirus.
"Over the past several days, the college has monitored the coronavirus with special attention to Italy", said Dave Murry, communications director at GRCC. "A class of 22 culinary students and several faculty members was scheduled to attend events and sessions in Florence, Tuscan region, Rome, Pompeii, Sorrento, and the Island of Capri between May 15 to 25."
The college also says the U.S. Department of State issued a Level 3 Travel Warning for all travel to Italy. Additionally, as of Saturday, February 29, the U.S. Department of State issued a Level 4 Travel Warning (Do Not Travel) to specific cities in the country.
Plans for the trip are canceled effective immediately.
