GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — If you're interested in learning and discussing ways to improve policing in Grand Rapids, the city wants to hear from you.

The City of Grand Rapids and Grand Rapids police will be hosting a Digital Town Hall from 5-7 p.m. Wednesday.

You can stream the meeting on the Office of Oversight and Public Accountability’s Facebook page and the City’s YouTube page and will be streamed live in Spanish HERE.

The panelists will be City Manager Mark Washington, Police Chief Eric Payne and Director of Oversight and Public Accountability (OPA) Brandon Davis.

The OPA was created last summer and serves as a liaison between public safety and the community.

City leaders are looking for input and innovative areas in specific areas, like strategies for police reform and increasing transparency and accountability.

The purpose of this meeting is working toward eliminating bias and structural racism from policy and practices.

Those interested in taking part are encouraged to ask questions or leave comments by calling 311.

"I think people have a right to express how they feel and I know as city leaders, we want to hear how individuals feel, if someone's angry, and they're expressing their anger, I respect that," said Brandon Davis, director of Oversight and Public Accountability for the City of Grand Rapids.

"I want to hear that so that we can learn from the anger and help hopefully what to help us to make policy that is reflective of the best interest of the city of Grand Rapids."
