GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — The Grand Rapids Jaycees announced their annual Santa parade is canceled due to COVID-19.

Event organizers say they are grateful for the community support, but the decision was made with public health hand safety in mind.

"Due to the Coronavirus pandemic, the safety of the participants and spectators, and the event restrictions put in place by the State of Michigan and its Department of Health and Human Services, the Grand Rapids Junior Chamber made the difficult decision to cancel the traditional Grand Rapids Santa Parade that was set to take place on Saturday, November 21st, 2020." the Jaycees Parade Committee posted to the event's Facebook page.

The event was already planned as a reverse parade to account for COVID-19 restrictions. Entrants would line Wealthy Street between Indiana and Garfield Avenues. The public was then invited to drive by to see the floats and decorated cars.

Further community events were hinted at, but not specifically described in the announcement.
