GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — The Grand Rapids Fire Department is responding to a hazmat situation at Haviland Enterprises on Ann Street.
The public is advised to avoid the area.
GRFD explains there was a small release of gas that seeped from the building, adding the reaction has bee contained and there is no threat to the public.
We're told two homes north of the area were instructed to shelter in place and no evacuations were made.
No one was injured in the incident, according to GRFD.
“We are investigating the incident and will provide further information as it is known,” says Haviland Enterprises President Meg Post. “Our top priority is the safety and well-being of our employees and the Grand Rapids community.”
Out of an abundance of caution, the area surrounding Haviland Enterprises has been isolated, and access is limited to motorists and pedestrians, fire officials say.
