GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — The Rapid will be making several changes to fare payments on its bus service starting Aug. 1.
Riders paying with cash will no longer receive free transfers and those without exact change will not receive change cards, The Rapid announced Tuesday.
Cash fare will still be accepted as payment.
In addition, the fare free zone on the Silver Line in downtown Grand Rapids will be eliminated, as well as the fare free service on the Route 19 Michigan Crosstown bus.
The changes were made after hearing public feedback since mid-June, The Rapid said.
Wave card users can still receive unlimited free transfers for an hour and 45 minutes after boarding. The card can be purchased at Rapid Central Station, Walgreen’s and Speedway stations.
