GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — An equipment malfunction has left hundreds of DTE customers without natural gas.

They say crews are working to restore service on Grand Rapids' Northeast side near Knapp and Perkins.

As of 6 a.m. Thursday, 200+ customers have had their gas fully restored. Crews are now working to relight natural gas appliances.

DTE says they hope to restore service to the rest of their customers by Thursday evening and that they are offering blankets, space heaters and hotel rooms to customers while repairs are being made.

Blankets and space heaters are being handed out at Community Recovery Care Center, 2340 Dean Lake Avenue in Grand Rapids.

Residents impacted who plan to stay in a hotel are being told to turn off their water to avoid frozen pipes.
