GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — A man from Michigan is being revered for his life of helping others.
Friends and family gathered Saturday at David Bowman's celebration of life.
David's son, Stuart, told FOX 17 his father began Partners in Compassionate Care, an organization created to bring medical care to South Sudan. Up to 8 thousand patients use the hospitals and four clinics bowman helped build, he said.
The ceremony included a Sudanese celebration at Calvary Church in Grand Rapids where many reflected on the lessons David spread to them.
"I think that is probably one of the greatest lessons is just to never be comfortable but to stand up for the people that are oppressed, to stand up for the widows and to take care of those who can't take care of themselves," Stuart said. "I think that is what I learned from my dad."
Bowman leaves behind his wife, five children, and many grandchildren as well.
