GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — A petition appeared on change.org urging support of a protest at Van Andel Arena in downtown Grand Rapids Monday, June 1, at 3 p.m.

The petition was posted on or before May 29, a full day before the protest that led to a riot in downtown Grand Rapids.

The person who posted the petition is only identified as “Anonymous Anonymous.”

The petition has a stated goal of 2,500 persons signing. As of 12 noon, there were more than 2,275 signers.

The only text on the petition says, “Police must pay for the crimes that they commit, we will not allow this to continue forward. SINCE NOTHING IS BEING DONE They will learn through RETALIATION. No kid should have to grow up like this, and we’ve allowed it for generations...ITS TIME TO STAND UP!”

An image of a Black Lives Matter Sign is featured on the page, but the sign is obviously not from any West Michigan event, as a New York skyscraper is in the background.
