Fatal crash leaves one dead in Paw Paw Township

PAW PAW TOWNSHIP, Mich. — Feb. 11, 2021 a crash occurred on Red Arrow Highway leaving one injured and another dead.

Thomas Makowski, 81, died on his way to Bronson Hospital traveling via Van Buren Emergency Medical Services (VBEMS) paramedics. The other driver whose name hasn’t been released is a Kalamazoo native and had non-life-threatening injuries.

Further investigation revealed the cause of the crash was when one person attempted to make a U-turn, getting struck on the driver’s side by the other car.

The Van Buren County Sheriff’s Department, Paw Paw Fire Department, and VBEMS Ambulance were all involved in the efforts to save both drivers. The investigation is pending, and drugs/alcohol have not yet been identified as factors.
