BUCHANAN TOWNSHIP, Mich. — This morning a motorist, 25, was trapped in her car after avoiding crashing into a deer in Buchanan Township according to Michigan State Police (MSP).

When the driver traveled on E. River Rd earlier, she wasn’t expecting a deer in the middle of the road, causing her to lose control and crash.

MSP, members of the Buchanan Police and Fire Departments utilized the jaws of life to remove the woman from the partially crushed vehicle. She was treated for non-life-threatening injuries at Lakeland hospital in Niles.

According to MSP motorists should remember to slow down quickly and safely instead of swerving when encountering a deer on the road. Due to the animal becoming unpredictable, alongside risking losing control over the vehicle, odds for increased survival are best when simply hitting the animal instead of an object or other car.
