GRAND RAPIDS — A company that specializes in taking out the trash is teaming up with a nonprofit to help families experiencing homelessness.

Junk Knights partnered with the Family Promise of Grand Rapids to make it happen. The franchise has a passion for ending homelessness and offers services like garbage and yard waste removal, demolitions and dumpster rentals.

But this week, a few families didn't have to worry about renting a dumpster as Junk Knights dropped one off for free.

Owner Joe Howard III said everyone has so-called "Junk" they want to throw away and doing it for free was one less thing people had to worry about during this pandemic.

Howard hopes this inspires other business owners to give back to their community in their own unique way.
