(WXYZ) — The American Red Cross is calling on the community to help in the fight against COVID-19 by donating blood and plasma — and if you do, you could win a trip to Super Bowl LVI.
The Red Cross says COVID-19 survivors can help others through a convalescent plasma donation or by giving whole blood.
“Blood and plasma donors who have recovered from COVID-19 may have the power to help critically ill patients currently battling the virus,” said Dr. Erin Goodhue, Red Cross medical director of clinical services, in a press release. “With hospital distributions for convalescent plasma increasing about 250% since October, these generous donations are vital in helping to save lives throughout the winter – a time that is often challenging to collect enough blood products for those in need.”
The organization has partnered with the National Football League this January to help tackle the shortage. According to a press release from the Red Cross, people who donate blood or platelets this month are automatically entered to win two tickets to next year's Super Bowl. There is also an opportunity to win a 'Big Game at Home' package that includes a 65-inch television and a $500 gift card for food.
