Michigan reports 517 new COVID-19 cases, 9 new deaths

LANSING, Mich. — The number of positive cases of the coronavirus in Michigan has increased to 89,271.

The number of cases increased 517 from yesterday, when there were 88,756 statewide cases, according to the Department of Health and Human Services this afternoon. Yesterday, the state reported 796 new cases.

The state says there have been 6,273 coronavirus deaths in Michigan.

The number of deaths has increased 9 from yesterday, when there were 6,264
statewide deaths. Yesterday, the state reported 7 new deaths.

Statewide, 60,022 people have recovered from the virus as of July 31. A person is considered "recovered" by the state if they are "30 days out from their onset of illness."

In the U.S., there are 5,171,343 cases, and there have been 165,328 deaths — while 1,598,624 people have recovered, according to the global COVID-19 Dashboard by the Center for Systems Science and Engineering at Johns Hopkins University.
