The Michigan Renaissance Festival is canceled for 2020 because of the ongoing pandemic, organizers announced Wednesday.
"We understand the impact of this decision on so many wonderful artisans, performers, participants, volunteers, and countless families seeking a place to celebrate and enjoy a touch of normalcy that our yearly festival tradition brings," reads a Facebook post on the Michigan Renaissance Festival page.
Event organizers added that over the last five months, they tried developing a plan to ensure a safe and healthy festival, but with current state orders in place the plan is not possible.
"Although we disagree with the current State directives that prevent a spacious outdoor venue from opening, we recognize the difficulty of the State government’s task. We share their goal of keeping Michigan safe and healthy," the Facebook post reads.
Going forward, organizers say there will be other events available to the public that are possible under the current state guidelines. Those activities will be announced in the coming weeks.
The annual Michigan Renaissance Festival is expected to return in 2021.
