MICHIGAN — Michigan reported 2,706 new cases of COVID-19 and 222 more deaths since Friday, according to the latest statistics from the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services.
207 of those deaths were identfied by the department during a Vital Records review.
This brings the total number of COVID-19 cases to 519,082 and the total number of deaths to 13,354 in Michigan.
As of Jan. 5, 363,611 people have recovered from the virus, according to the MDHHS.
More than 725,000 vaccines have been distributed throughout the state, and more than 195,000 doses have been administered to Michiganders so far.
In November, Governor Gretchen Whitmer and MDHHS Director Robert Gordon announced the 3-week pause which closed indoor dining, movie theatres, in-person learning at high schools and college and more.
That order was set to expire in early December, but Whitmer and Gordon announced a 12-day extension. The latest extension for restaurants will go through January 15, but could be lifted early if numbers continue to decline.
