Michigan reports 1,522 new coronavirus cases

Coronavirus-confirmed healthcare workers can return to work without being testing negative

MICHIGAN — The number of positive cases of the coronavirus in Michigan has increased to 134,656.

The number of cases increased 1,522 from yesterday, when there were 133,134 statewide cases, according to the Department of Health and Human Services this afternoon. Yesterday, the state reported just over 1,000 new cases.

The state says there have been 6,891 coronavirus deaths in Michigan.

The number of deaths has increased 15 from yesterday, when there were 6,876 deaths. Yesterday, the state reported seven new deaths.

Statewide, 99,521 people have recovered from the virus as of Oct. 2. A person is considered "recovered" by the state if they are "30 days out from their onset of illness."

In the U.S., there are 7,689,358 cases, and there have been 214,007 deaths — while 3,039,089 people have recovered, according to the global COVID-19 Dashboard by the Center for Systems Science and Engineering at Johns Hopkins University.
