Confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Michigan increase by 799

MICHIGAN — The number of positive cases of the coronavirus in Michigan has increased to 101,498.

The number of cases increased 799 from yesterday, when there were 100,699 statewide cases, according to the Department of Health and Human Services this afternoon.

The state says there have been 6,465 coronavirus deaths in Michigan.

The number of deaths has increased 21from yesterday, when there were 6,446 statewide deaths. Yesterday, the state reported 6 new deaths.

Statewide, 72,580 people have recovered from the virus as of Aug. 21. A person is considered "recovered" by the state if they are "30 days out from their onset of illness."

In the U.S., there are 5,952,500 cases, and there have been 182,175 deaths — while 2,101,326 people have recovered, according to the global COVID-19 Dashboard by the Center for Systems Science and Engineering at Johns Hopkins University.
