Coronavirus cases keep climbing in Michigan

4th consecutive day with increase; highest daily total since May 31

LANSING, Mich. — The number of positive cases of the coronavirus in Michigan has increased to 62,306.

The Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (MDHHS) released the latest numbers on the coronavirus outbreak this afternoon.

The number of cases has increased 353 from yesterday, when there were 61,953 statewide cases. Yesterday, the state reported 323 new cases.

The state says there have been 5,887 coronavirus deaths in Michigan.

The number of deaths has increased19 from yesterday, when there were 5,868 statewide deaths. Yesterday, the state reported 4 new deaths.

Statewide, 49,290 people have recovered from the virus as of June 19. A person is considered "recovered" by the state if they are "30 days out from their onset of illness."

In the U.S., there are 2,404,781 cases, and there have been 122,320 deaths — while 656,161 people have recovered, according to the global COVID-19 Dashboard by the Center for Systems Science and Engineering at Johns Hopkins University.
