Berrien County is reporting its second death due to the coronavirus.
The patient was a man over 65 who had underlying medical conditions, according to Berrien County this afternoon.
He was hospitalized at Lakeland Medical Center in St. Joseph.
The county currently has 60 cases of the virus.
“This loss of life is tragic, and we send our deep condolences to the family,” said Nicki Britten, health officer, Berrien County Health Department.
“We remain committed to slowing the spread of this virus to try to minimize the loss of life in our community during these unprecedented times.”
Berrien County said it urges families to livestream funerals, since multiple recent coronavirus cases in the county are "associated with in-person funerals."
It also reminded residents to "stay committed" to social distancing and avoid "in-person gatherings" with several religious days coming up.
"One of the most loving things we can do for one another is to stay home,” Britten said.
