Allegan County is reporting its first death due to the coronavirus.
The individual was hospitalized and had underlying health conditions that were "likely a contributing factor," according to the Allegan County Health Department today.
There are 61 cases of the coronavirus in Allegan County, as of today.
The county has received 564 negative test results, and five test results are pending.
“We send our heartfelt condolences to the grieving family and friends during this time,” said Angelique Joynes, health officer, Allegan County Health Department.
“This is a tragic reminder of why it is so important for everyone to continue to practice social distancing. We have to work together to protect each other and slow the spread of this virus.”
The health department urges residents to "take the appropriate precautions."
