99,958 coronavirus cases confirmed in Michigan

LANSING, Mich. — The number of positive cases of the coronavirus in Michigan has increased to 99,958.

The number of cases increased 758 from yesterday, when there were 98,439 statewide cases, according to the Department of Health and Human Services this afternoon. Yesterday, the state reported 779 new cases.

The state says there have been 16 new deaths and 6,440 total coronavirus deaths in Michigan.

Yesterday, the state reported 20 new deaths.

Statewide, 72,580 people have recovered from the virus as of Aug. 21. A person is considered "recovered" by the state if they are "30 days out from their onset of illness."

In the U.S., there are 5,846,591 cases, and there have been 180,249 deaths — while 2,084,465 people have recovered, according to the global COVID-19 Dashboard by the Center for Systems Science and Engineering at Johns Hopkins University.
