80,887 coronavirus cases confirmed in Michigan

LANSING, Mich. — The number of positive cases of the coronavirus in Michigan has increased to 80,887.

The number of cases increased 715 from yesterday, when there were 80,172 statewide cases, according to the Department of Health and Human Services this afternoon. Yesterday, the state reported 996 new cases.

The state says there have been 6,191 coronavirus deaths in Michigan.

The number of deaths has increased 19 from yesterday, when there were 6,172 statewide deaths. Yesterday, the state reported 2 new deaths.

Statewide, 57,502 people have recovered from the virus as of July 24. A person is considered "recovered" by the state if they are "30 days out from their onset of illness."

In the U.S., there are 4,464,906 cases, and there have been 151,496 deaths — while 1,389,425 people have recovered, according to the global COVID-19 Dashboard by the Center for Systems Science and Engineering at Johns Hopkins University.
