71,842 coronavirus cases confirmed in Michigan

LANSING, Mich. — The number of positive cases of the coronavirus in Michigan has increased to to 71,842.

The number of cases increased 645 from yesterday, when there were 71,197 statewide cases, according to the Department of Health and Human Services this afternoon. Yesterday, the state reported 891 new cases.

The state says there have been 6,101 coronavirus deaths in Michigan.

The number of deaths has increased 16 from yesterday, when there were 6,085 statewide deaths. Yesterday, the state reported 4 new deaths.

Statewide, 53,867 people have recovered from the virus as of July 5. A person is considered "recovered" by the state if they are "30 days out from their onset of illness."

In the U.S., there are 3,533,317 cases, and there have been 137,`846 deaths — while 1,075,882 people have recovered, according to the global COVID-19 Dashboard by the Center for Systems Science and Engineering at Johns Hopkins University.
