LANSING, Mich. — The number of positive cases of the coronavirus in Michigan has increased to to 71,197.
The number of cases increased 891 from yesterday, when there were 70,306 statewide cases, according to the Department of Health and Human Services this afternoon. Yesterday, the state reported 584 new cases.
The state says there have been 6,085 coronavirus deaths in Michigan.
The number of deaths has increased 4 from yesterday, when there were 6,081 statewide deaths. Yesterday, the state reported 6 new deaths.
Statewide, 53,867 people have recovered from the virus as of July 5. A person is considered "recovered" by the state if they are "30 days out from their onset of illness."
In the U.S., there are 3,465,031 cases, and there have been 136,`940 deaths — while 1,049,098 people have recovered, according to the global COVID-19 Dashboard by the Center for Systems Science and Engineering at Johns Hopkins University.
