61,630 coronavirus cases confirmed in Michigan

LANSING, Mich. — The number of positive cases of the coronavirus in Michigan has increased to 61,630.

The Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (MDHHS) released the latest numbers on the coronavirus outbreak this afternoon.

The number of cases has increased 221 from yesterday, when there were 61,409 statewide cases. Yesterday, the state reported 179 new cases.

The state says there have been 5,864 coronavirus deaths in Michigan.

The number of deaths has increased 11 from yesterday, when there were 5,853 statewide deaths. Yesterday, the state reported 7 new deaths.

Statewide, 49,290 people have recovered from the virus as of June 19. A person is considered "recovered" by the state if they are "30 days out from their onset of illness."

In the U.S., there are 2,328,562 cases, and there have been 120,913 deaths — while 640,198 people have recovered, according to the global COVID-19 Dashboard by the Center for Systems Science and Engineering at Johns Hopkins University.
