59,801 coronavirus cases confirmed in Michigan

LANSING, Mich. — The number of positive cases of the coronavirus in Michigan has increased to 59,801.

The Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (MDHHS) released the latest numbers on the coronavirus outbreak this afternoon.

The number of cases has increased 180 from yesterday, when there were 59,621 statewide cases. Yesterday, the state reported 125 new cases.

The state says there have been 5,767 coronavirus deaths in Michigan.

The number of deaths has increased 22 from yesterday, when there were 5,990 statewide deaths. Yesterday, the state reported 8 new deaths.

Statewide, 42,041 people have recovered from the virus as of June 5. A person is considered "recovered" by the state if they are "30 days out from their onset of illness."

In the U.S., there are 2,061,005 cases, and there have been 115,036 deaths — while 547,386 people have recovered, according to the global COVID-19 Dashboard by the Center for Systems Science and Engineering at Johns Hopkins University.
