59,278 coronavirus cases confirmed in Michigan

LANSING, Mich. — The number of positive cases of the coronavirus in Michigan has increased to 59,278.

The Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (MDHHS) released the latest numbers on the coronavirus outbreak this afternoon.

The number of cases has increased 171 from yesterday, when there were 59,107 statewide cases. Yesterday, the state reported 108 new cases.

The state says there have been 5,711 coronavirus deaths in Michigan.

The number of deaths has increased 13 from yesterday, when there were 5,698 statewide deaths. Yesterday, the state reported 25 new deaths.

Statewide, 42,041 people have recovered from the virus as of June 5. A person is considered "recovered" by the state if they are "30 days out from their onset of illness."

In the U.S., there are 1,990,112 cases, and there have been 112,441 deaths — while 524,855 people have recovered, according to the global COVID-19 Dashboard by the Center for Systems Science and Engineering at Johns Hopkins University.
