LANSING, Mich. — The number of positive cases of the coronavirus in Michigan has increased to 51,142.
The Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (MDHHS) reported the latest numbers on the coronavirus outbreak this afternoon.
The number of cases has increased 638 from yesterday, when there were 50,504 statewide cases. Yesterday, the state reported 425 new cases.
The state says there have been 4,891 coronavirus deaths in Michigan.
The number of deaths has increased 11 from yesterday, when there were 4,880 statewide deaths. Yesterday, the state reported 55 new deaths.
Statewide, 28,234 people have recovered from the virus as of May 15. A person is considered "recovered" by the state if they are "30 days out from their onset of illness."
In the U.S., there are 1,478,241 cases, and there have been 89,207 deaths — while 268,376 people have recovered, according to the global COVID-19 Dashboard by the Center for Systems Science and Engineering at Johns Hopkins University.
