LANSING, Mich. — The number of positive cases of the coronavirus in Michigan has increased to 43,754.

The Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (MDHHS) reported the latest numbers of cases in the coronavirus outbreak this afternoon.

The number of cases has increased 547 from yesterday, when there were 43,207 statewide cases. Yesterday, the state reported 851 new cases.

The state says there have been 4,049 coronavirus deaths in Michigan.

The number of deaths has increased 29 from yesterday, when there were 4,020 statewide deaths. Yesterday, the state reported 154 new deaths.

Statewide, 15,659 people have recovered from the virus as of May 1. A person is considered "recovered" by the state if they are "30 days out from their onset of illness."

In the U.S., there are 1,148,004 cases, and there have been 66,760 deaths — while 175,382 people have recovered, according to the global COVID-19 Dashboard by the Center for Systems Science and Engineering at Johns Hopkins University.
