30,791 coronavirus cases confirmed in Michigan

LANSING, Mich. — The number of positive cases of the coronavirus in Michigan has increased to 30,791.

The Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (MDHHS) reported the latest numbers of cases in the coronavirus outbreak this afternoon.

The number of cases has increased 768 from yesterday, when there were 30,023 statewide cases. Yesterday, the state reported 760 new cases.

The state says there have been 2,308 coronavirus deaths in Michigan.

The number of deaths has increased 81 from yesterday, when there were 2,227 statewide deaths. Yesterday, the state reported 134 new deaths.

Statewide, 3,237 people have recovered from the virus as of April 17. A person is considered "recovered" by the state if they are "30 days out from their onset of illness."

In the U.S., there are 715,536 cases, and there have been 37,625 deaths — while 59,984 people have recovered, according to the Center for Systems Science and Engineering at Johns Hopkins University.
