137,702 coronavirus cases confirmed in Michigan

LANSING, Mich. — The number of positive cases of the coronavirus in Michigan has increased to 137,702.

The number of cases increased 1,237 from yesterday, when there were 136,465 statewide cases, according to the Department of Health and Human Services this afternoon. Yesterday, the state reported 1,809 new cases -- over Sunday and Monday.

The state says there have been 6,928 coronavirus deaths in Michigan.

The number of deaths has increased 30 from yesterday, when there were 6,898 deaths. Yesterday, the state reported seven new deaths -- over Sunday and Monday.

Statewide, 104,271 people have recovered from the virus as of Oct. 9. A person is considered "recovered" by the state if they are "30 days out from their onset of illness."

In the U.S., there are 7,829,476 cases, and there have been 215,476 deaths — while 3,106,769 people have recovered, according to the global COVID-19 Dashboard by the Center for Systems Science and Engineering at Johns Hopkins University.
