100,699 coronavirus cases confirmed in Michigan

LANSING, Mich. — The number of positive cases of the coronavirus in Michigan has increased to 100,699.

The number of cases increased 741 from yesterday, when there were 99,958 statewide cases, according to the Department of Health and Human Services this afternoon. Yesterday, the state reported 758 new cases.

The state says there have been 6,446 coronavirus deaths in Michigan.

The number of deaths has increased six from yesterday, when there were 6,440 statewide deaths. Yesterday, the state reported 16 new deaths.

Statewide, 72,580 people have recovered from the virus as of Aug. 21. A person is considered "recovered" by the state if they are "30 days out from their onset of illness."

In the U.S., there are 5,892,779 cases, and there have been 181,409 deaths — while 2,101,326 people have recovered, according to the global COVID-19 Dashboard by the Center for Systems Science and Engineering at Johns Hopkins University.
