West Michigan's appetite for art has grown over the last decade and many museums have seen an increase in foot traffic. The Muskegon Museum of Art has many exhibits to sample, and they're laying out their 2020 menu for those who are hungry to learn about art.

Excellence in Fibers V

In partnership with the Fiber Art Network, MMA will showcase designs from the international fiber arts competition, Excellence in Fibers, organized by the Fiber Art Network.

The exhibition displays the works of 39 artists from the United States and Canada, representing textile and fiber based pieces such as sculpture, tapestry, jewelry, costume and clothing, quilting, weaving, basketry, installation, and more.

The exhibit will be open until March 15.

20 for 20: Celebrating Michigan Illustrators

There is so much artistic talent in Michigan, and 20 for 20: Celebrating Michigan Illustrators showcases works by childrens' book illustrators from across the mitten. Both nationally recognized houshold names in literature along with up and coming illustrators will have work on display.

The exhibition is a collaged experience, celebrating the differences within the illustrative process that exemplifies the various ways artists come to create a piece, and challenges the viewer to adjust their definition of what it means to be an illustrator. From paintings, drawings, and collages, to pieces that are entirely digitally rendered, this exhibition celebrates the diversity found among illustrators.

There will be a special family event night on Friday, March 20 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m.

Annual Postcard Salon

The Postcard Salon is celebrating its 14th year! The Postcard Salon is a chance for people of all ages and skill levels to share their artwork with the public. Over 1,000 cards from artists across West Michigan will be on display, offering a range of materials and topics.

To submit a postcard, it must follow these guidelines:

  • Artists may submit up to five cards in any media measuring exactly 4 x6 inches in height and width.
  • The deadline for entry is Sunday, March 15.
  • Participation is free, but all cards must be available for sale at $30.
  • Proceeds will be split between the artist and the MMA.
  • Enclose Entry Form with your artwork.

The exhibition will take place April 2-16. Postcards will be for sale on the last day of the exhibition.
