Hiring companies you can trust; tips from the Better Business Bureau

and last updated

Besides the quality of work and price, there's one key element homeowners should factor in before hiring someone to help improve the house: trust. Many turn to the Better Business Bureau to find out if they can trust the company they're about to hire, and they'll be sharing their wisdom with homeowners at the Grand Rapids Remodeling and New Homes Show this weekend.

Trades requiring a license for residential work include:

  • Roofers
  • Excavation
  • Siding
  • Replacement Windows/Doors
  • Swimming Pool Installation
  • Basement Waterproofing

The BBB says the questions homeowners need to ask before hiring anyone to work on your home are:

  • Are you licensed?
  • Are you insured?
  • How much will it cost?
  • When can you do the job?
  • Do you have references?

Be sure to check out the company before hiring them by visiting the business list at BBB.org.

The Grand Rapids Remodeling and New Homes Show will take place January 17-19.
