Despite the quarantine amid the COVID-19 pandemic, Friends of Grand Rapids Parks have been keeping themselves busy this year, and will continue to do so throughout the summer.

This summer, Friends of GR Parks have been providing teens with jobs for the summer by recruiting them as part of the Green Team. Friends may plant thousands of trees each year, but all that work is in vain if the trees aren't taken care of.

These teens are paid to go around the city and take care of the newly planted trees by watering and trimming them, as well as reporting any damage that might have been caused.

In celebration of Parks and Recreation Month, Friends is launching a special, limited-edition series of posters featuring three Grand Rapids parks! Local artist Jeff VandenBerg teamed up with Friends to transform the essence of each park into a beautiful illustration.

This bundle includes all three posters – Garfield, Huff, and Riverside parks – for $75 total, or $30 each. Start shopping by clicking here.

Then on August 13, Friends of GR Parks will be hosting a Green Gala: Picnic Edition at Ah-Nab-Awen Park. Just head to their website to select the food basket you wish to purchase, and you can pick it up at the event to enjoy.

Guests must RSVP by August 7 at this link.
